After a week of drama, the Goldfields Open sees Welshman Mark Williams take on outsider Stuart Bingham in the first ranking event of the season and while the betting shows Williams as the clear favourite, Bingham’s tenacity makes him a very good value bet to take the first major title of his career.
At the time of writing, the first session has finished at four frames each and while the bookmakers are still showing Williams as the favourite, there has to be a very strong option to stake some money on his unfancied opponent.
Currently, betting on Williams will return a best price of 1/3 with Stan James while Bingham is available at 2/1 with the same bookmaker.
For many neutral snooker fans it will be great to see Mark Williams back to the kind of form he showed several years ago before an alarming slump that saw him drop out of the world’s top ten and down the rankings. Equally, it will be refreshing to see a new name in a final such as this and there will be a huge swathe of support for Stuart Bingham.
Overall, neither of the prices on offer look to be all that tempting but we feel that Williams will just edge this. With that in mind, if you can find a tempting bet on the Welshman to triumph by a solitary frame then that could be your most lucrative option as the event continues.
